Key Takeaways from South Africa's Industrial Research on Quantum Technologies Event
Hightlights from our September event
Hello Dear Friends,
What an informative and insightful September event we had at OneQuantum South Africa! The talks and the panel discussion sessions delivered by researchers, academics and industrial leaders have shared immense light on building strong local quantum ecosystems. See event report.
Here are the 3 key takeaways from this event:
It is very important to have the foundational structures that make a quantum ecosystem, these include academia, government, industry and users - All these parties should be involve from the start of the quantum roadmap that a local ecosystem wants to build.
African universities need to work together to build capable and impactful research in the field of Quantum Information Science. ARUA has been set up to foster collaborations amongst research universities. We need to start thinking of introducing quantum programs in research universities that don’t have the programs yet and amplify the program outputs of those that have quantum programs in place.
Potential use cases of quantum computing are not concentrated in the fields of Finance and Retail but also in the traditional sectors that contribute to most African economies such as mining and manufacturing. Quantum computing based solutions will provide better location and extraction of minerals, logistics and fleet optimisation, new molecules and materials, etc.
It is OneQuantum’s vision to see everyone participate in this technological revolution.
It is my dream to see all 54 countries in the African continent having quantum roadmaps and strong quantum ecosystems add
